Hasya Rang Utsav 2024 Opens with Laughter and Theatrical Brilliance at Kamani Auditorium

The highly anticipated Hasya Rang Utsav, organized by Sahitya Kala Parishad and the Government of NCT, Delhi, kicked off with resounding laughter and applause at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House, on its opening day. The festival’s inaugural evening was packed with humor and theatrical brilliance, setting the tone for the next two days of laughter-filled entertainment.

The evening began with a lively performance by renowned comedian Sunil Pal, whose effortless humor had the audience roaring with laughter. Known for his relatable jokes and impeccable timing, Pal’s charm resonated with every age group, offering a lighthearted commentary on everyday life. His performance perfectly set the stage for an evening of entertainment.

Next, the classic play ‘Charandas Chor’, written by acclaimed playwright Habib Tanvir and directed by Rajesh Tiwari (NSD), captivated the crowd with its poignant satire and vibrant storytelling. The play tells the story of Charandas, a thief who lives by four principles: never eating from a gold plate, never lying, never taking someone else’s wife, and never running from the police. As Charandas tries to balance his criminal life with his unusual honesty, the play cleverly explores deeper moral and human questions. With lively characters, folk music, and thought-provoking themes, ‘Charandas Chor’ remains a celebrated classic of Indian theatre.

Reflecting on the success of the first day, Shri Saurabh Bhardwaj, Hon’ble Minister of Art, Culture & Languages, Government of Delhi, said, “The overwhelming response to the first day of Hasya Rang Utsav is heartening. Delhi’s audiences have always embraced art and culture with open arms, and this festival reflects our commitment to bringing joy and meaningful entertainment to the city. Hasya Rang Utsav is a wonderful effort to preserve the tradition of Indian comedy while catering to modern sensibilities. I encourage everyone to join us for the next two days of laughter and theatre.”

The festival continues on December 17, 2024, with a stand-up act by the popular comedian Ehsaan Qureshi, followed by the engaging play ‘Ghar Ka Na Ghat Ka’, scripted by Jaywardhan Singh and directed by J.P. Singh. On the final day, December 18, 2024, audiences will enjoy the charismatic humor of stand-up artist VIP, followed by the timeless play ‘Bank Manager’, written by Anton Chekhov and directed by Shyam Kumar.

The Hasya Rang Utsav promises a platform for humor, artistry, and cultural brilliance, inviting Delhiites to laugh and celebrate as they approach the new year.
